Melih
Şimşek
Chairman of the Board
Consera
Born in 1968, Melih Şimşek graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Civil Engineering, in 1990. In the early years of his career, he served as a Board Member at the family-owned company Akşan Yapı A.Ş., where he led reinforced concrete and steel superstructure construction projects for public institutions and the private sector.
Following the devastating August 17, 1999 earthquake, Mr. Şimşek closely monitored global developments in the construction industry and began researching alternative, earthquake-resistant building systems. In 2001, he founded Akkon Çelik A.Ş., establishing Turkey’s first light steel building system manufacturing facility in Çerkezköy. The same year, he pioneered the construction of Turkey’s first light steel residential buildings, schools, hospitals, dormitories, and military housing facilities. By 2006, Akkon Çelik had grown into one of Europe’s three largest manufacturers in its field.
Mr. Şimşek also played a key role in introducing light steel construction systems for the first time to neighboring countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Iraq, and Iran, and expanded exports to 32 countries across Europe, the Middle East, and beyond.
Together with his brothers, he co-founded Consera, becoming one of the pioneers of off-site construction and modular building systems in Turkey. By shifting production to factory-controlled environments and assembling structures on-site, Consera delivers high-quality, cost-efficient, and durable projects while minimizing human error. In 2025, Consera delivered landmark projects such as Kuzeybükü Zekeriyaköy and the Malatya İş Bankası Apartments, one of Turkey’s first large-scale modular residential developments of its kind. The company continues to drive innovation through its modular housing brand Homera and its factory-produced modular bathroom solutions brand Erawet, serving both Turkey and Europe.
Mr. Şimşek has been actively involved in the Turkish Structural Steel Association (TUCSA) since 2000, serving as a Board Member since 2003 and as Vice Chairman of the Board since 2023. In 2025, he also joined the Board of İNDER (Association of Constructors and Real Estate Developers), where he oversees R&D activities.
