Born in 1973 in Ankara, he graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Economics. He completed his master’s degree at Atılım University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Business Administration.

He worked at Şekerbank T.A.Ş. as a money markets assistant specialist and specialist in Fund Management. In 2004, he joined the Capital Markets Board and worked in the Department of Institutional Investors. After serving as Personnel Manager and Deputy Head of Department, he was appointed as Vice Chairman of the Board in 2014.

Gönül was appointed as the Chairman of the Capital Markets Board on April 18, 2022.

Mr. Gönül speaks fluent English and intermediate German and is married with two children.
