Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment

He was born in Avtepe in 1964. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Famagusta and is a graduate of Business Administration. Mr. Ataoğlu founded Berna Ltd. Petrol Station, Ataoğlu Oxygen Industry, and Pet-Mak Ltd. Having received Amateur Yacht Captaincy training at Girne American University, Mr. Ataoğlu also served as Vice President of the Famagusta Taekwondo Association. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Turkish Petroleum Dealers Association and the Famagusta Mariners Association.


Since 1992, he has held various positions within the Demokrat Party. Between 2006 and 2019, he served as the Famagusta District Chairman.


Having been elected as a Member of Parliament for Famagusta from the Demokrat Party in the early general elections held on 28 July 2013, Mr. Ataoğlu served on the Temporary and Special Committee established to discuss European Union harmonization draft laws, the Legal, Political Affairs and Foreign Relations Committee, the Court of Accounts Committee, and the Temporary Ad-Hoc Committee established to consider proposed amendments to the Law on Marriage and Divorce.


On 16 April 2016, he assumed office as Minister of Tourism and Environment in the Ulusal Birlik Party–Demokrat Party Ulusal Güçler Coalition Government established on that date.


In the early general elections for parliamentary membership held on 7 January 2018, he was re-elected as a Demokrat Party Member of Parliament for Famagusta. In the CTP–HP–TDP–DP Coalition Government formed on 2 February 2018, he once again served as Minister of Tourism and Environment, a position he held until 22 May 2019.


On 30 November 2019, at the 11th Demokrat Party Congress, in which he was the sole candidate, he was elected Party Chairman. In the UBP–DP–YDP coalition government formed on 9 December 2020, he again took office as Minister of Tourism and Environment. In the UBP–DP Coalition Government established in 2021, he served in the cabinet as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism and Environment.


Following the early general elections of 23 January 2022, he assumed office in the UBP–DP–YDP Coalition Government as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment.


Mr. Ataoğlu is married, has three children, and is proficient in Greek and English.
